Our Team

Somebody Has to Drive.

Somebody has to fix the bakkie when it breaks on the way back from Stanger. Somebody has to be at the loading bay at first light, sort what comes off, pack the crates, cook the soup, open the gate.

That is what this team is. Not a staff directory. A list of the people who do those jobs, every weekday, on the same piece of land in Tongaat.

Leadership

31 Years, and the People Who Carried It.

Tinus and Meisie started this in 1995. In 2015 Tinus handed the leadership to Hein van der Merwe during his health challenges, and Hein grew it and handed it back to Tinus in 2017. Brenda came into the mission in 2021.

The community part

Some Came for a Week. Some Never Left.

Dewald arrived in 2016 with his life not working. Alcohol, drugs, decisions he could not undo on his own. He supervises this operation now, and he met his wife Odette here, and they were married on this property.

People arrive as day volunteers and stay as missionaries. Some leave for Mozambique or Venda to start something of their own, and they come back to visit. It is not a staff structure so much as a family that happens to run a food rescue network.

The work explains the people

If that is the kind of team you would want to stand next to.

Food rescued from 5 retailers before it goes into a bin. Food going out every weekday. More than 150 people fed in our community. No rand spent on the food itself.
