For 31 years, Missions Ablaze has run a food rescue network across KwaZulu-Natal from the same piece of land, under the same leadership, with the same model. Local people running kitchens in their own streets. Food going out every weekday. Named people, named neighbourhoods, and a partnership path built for churches that want to commit for longer than one Sunday.

You Would Not Be the First Congregation to Say Yes.
50 volunteers, led by Dr. Conrad Mershon and Mr. Robin Read, arrived at a fledgling ministry in Tongaat and put their shoulders behind 8 missionaries and 2 kombis. Without that team the early years would have been much harder, and possibly shorter.
In the decades since, Grace Church Silver Pines and other congregations have partnered in ways that matched their size and season. Grace sent funds for a vehicle when the network needed one. Others have run food drives and sent short-term teams.
Church partnership is not a new idea here. It is in the founding DNA.

Send a short-term team
A week or two on the ground changes how a congregation sees missions. Teams join kitchen work, food runs, creche support and community outreach. Accommodation is on site in Tongaat, 40km north of Durban and close to King Shaka International Airport.
Planning starts 3 to 6 months ahead of arrival. Tinus handles the coordination himself.

Run a food drive
A food drive is often the first step for a congregation not ready for a multi-year commitment. It gathers your people around something tangible, gives the children a job, and produces a load of goods a real network can use.
Email us for drop-off details and a current needs list. Most drives run over a month and peak on a chosen Sunday.

Give as a congregation
Community kitchens run across Tongaat, Cottonlands, Inanda, Verulam, Hambanathi, Ntumzuma, Lloyd Melville, Shakaskraal, Shakaville, Phoenix, Buffelsdraai, Buffelsdale, Hazelmere, Gwala's Farm, Burbreeze and Durban. Each one is led by someone local, and not one of them was appointed.
Wiseman is a retired man with a bakkie who was asked to help with transport and ended up running the organisation. Pastor Bobby has fed his Phoenix community for 23 years and drives for us on weekends. They started, and then they asked us for food.
When your church gives monthly, it goes into the operation that supplies all of them. We don't ring-fence gifts to one kitchen, so none of them goes short because another has a sponsor.
Maintenance Partner
from $50 / R1,000 a month
Keeps the mission station maintained and the storeroom stocked. Gas, soap, utensils, cleaning materials.
Operations Partner
from $140 / R2,800 a month
Covers a full day of the whole network's operations. Roughly one day a month, the lights stay on because of your congregation.

What we do not do is prosperity language, guilt-based fundraising, or transactional faith framing. We do not create dependence either. The model restores dignity by design. Food that retailers would have wasted becomes a meal that lets a family keep going on their own.
God provides the food through retailers. Your church keeps it moving.
That is the whole theology of the partnership.
For US and UK churches
International Partnerships, Handled Honestly.
Some have sent funds for vehicles, some give monthly, some act as 501(c)(3) fiscal conduits for their members. Grace Church Silver Pines is the partner church we work with on that route.
Direct giving from the US through our donation page is accepted but not automatically US tax-deductible, because Missions Ablaze is a South African registered NPO, not a 501(c)(3). For churches wanting a US tax-deductible path, the cleanest route is a fiscal conduit: a US church receives donations earmarked for Missions Ablaze, issues IRS receipts and forwards the funds. This is standard mission giving structure. We can connect your congregation with an existing partner church as a model, or help you set your own up.
For UK churches, Gift Aid is not available on direct donations. Short-term teams and food drives work either way without tax complications.
We would rather tell you this plainly than market around it.
